James Donachie: Winner of the 2009 FMG European Tour Scholarship

The standard of the GCCC was so high this year that Rangers invited a second player form the tournament, Rochedale's Left Back 16 y/o Jordan Seeto.

Both James and Jordan have just returned from Murray Park in Scotland. Rangers are actually negotiating with us about the future of James Donachie.

We are told James trialed without fault through the week. Rangers were taken by his size, strength, leadership quality and shere calmness. We are told james is one of the few trialists for his age that they have witnessed who has simply not been overwhelmed by the occasion. - Steven Massey (FMG)

Scholarship – The Football Management Group Gold Coast Champions Youth Cup

The Football Management Group (FMG) has been unveiled as the Naming Rights Sponsor for the Gold Coast Champions Youth Cup. Both FMG and the tournament organisers are delighted with this agreement which creates real football synergies. First on the agenda for FMG is the announcement of its intention to offer a European Coaching Tour Scholarship to the Best Player of the Tournament.

To provide some background about FMG, our services include:

  • Licensed FIFA Match Agency

  • Licensed FIFA/FFA Player Agency

  • The FMG International Football Academy based in Brisbane

  • 25 years of experience providing intensive Football Coaching Tours to Europe

  • One of the only Private Academies in Australia to hold a FIFA Pro Coaching License

  • University Degree Programs whilst playing Football in Belgium leading to European Passport
As Licensed Player Agents, FMG understand that England is not only a difficult professional Pathway for young Australian Players to take but it is also an increasingly impossible avenue due to a greater tightening of UK Sports Visa Requirements. For these reasons FMG have spent 25 years extending their network and have operated European Coaching & Scouting Clinics into countries such as Germany and Belgium.

Previous FMG European Tours have unearthed some major talent including Thomas Hitzlsperger, Adam Sarota and Erwin Buljubasic. Thomas is now a Full German International having earned over 50 caps and is also the Captain of Bundesliga 1 side Vfb Stuttgart. FMG also facilitated in obtaining  a two year scholarship for Adam Sarota with the 1FC Koln-Taxofit German Academy upon completion of which he went on to sign a 3 year contract with the Queensland Roar. In December 2008 Brisbane Based Erwin Buljubasic was offered a similar Scholarship with 1FC Koln-Taxofit whilst on tour with FMG in Germany.

FMG is proud to be associated with the Gold Coast Champions Youth Cup and to be able to offer a fully paid European Coaching Clinic Scholarship to the Best Player of the 2009 Gold Coast Champions Youth Cup with the following guidelines, which are subject to change prior to tournament commencement:

  • The scholarship is open to males between the ages 15 to 18 years

  • An All Stars Team will be nominated at this year’s tournament made up of the best 15 to 19 year olds

  • Coaches and Managers are invited to nominate their very best 15 to 19 years olds for All Star selection (no more than 3 players keeping in mind that the successful candidate must be exceptional)

  • FMG Officials and Tournament Organisers will collaborate to select the All Stars Team

  • FMG Officials and Tournament Organisers will collaborate to select the successful Scholarship recipient from the assembled All Stars Team

  • The Successful Recipient must possess an Australian Passport, Travel Insurance and be available to travel with this year’s FMG Football Coaching Tour to Belgium and Germany departing November 18 and returning December 10, 2009.

The tour itself will be run by FMG and will consist of a party of 15 to 19 year old players, including the Scholarship winner, and accompanying adults. It will encompass  just over one week in Belgium where the squad will train and play with clubs such as Standard Liege and Anderlecht followed by a week at Koln, Germany at the famous 1FC Koln-Taxofit Academy.
